(Some more comments about this video and how it seeks to misrepresent and denigrate the non-western gender system):
Also, consider this:
The narrator in the TV programme says rather disparagingly: "In India the Hijras are considered a completely separate gender."
But, will the west ever look at itself like this: "In the west, men who acknowledge their desire for men are seen as a completely separate gender/ class."
Gay afterall, is, for all practical purposes -- a completely different gender -- like the third gender/ Hijras. And that is why it is such a stigma for western 'straights.' Not because of some religious stigma. Certainly not because the straights don't have a sexual attraction for men.
Isn't it much more reasonable to consider gender orientation as a separate class, than to consider 'sexual desires' as comprising a separate class?
Non-west segregates its people based on their gender orientation.
West segregates its people based on their sexual orientation.
which is better/ non-oppressive/ reasonable?
By no means is the non-western system perfect. However, we need to go in the opposite direction of the west to correct it -- not in the same as the west. It is the west, however, which MUST change itself drastically, in this era of globalization.
